When will AI do real meaningful work?

I’m tired of everyone hailing AI like the solution to everything. Or people projecting that “omg AI is helping us scale/build” People will realize in 10 years that they’ve destroyed the world even more thanks to the freaking disaster happening right now in the generative AI world.

For all the AI fans out there, please answer me these questions: Where are my AI ROBOT plumbers, electricians? Where are my AI kitchen bots to help me cook, clean? - DOn’t tell me about a 6000 euro “smart cooker” which I won’t do anything useful. Where are the bots which build houses for the needy? Where are those AI bots which grow food? And don’t tell me about those 1 million euro tractors… Don’t get me started with the sloppy bots which vacuum/clean.. those have been around for 20 years before the AI hype.

Or take a look at McDonalds, KFC or anyotherr fast food business (don’t eat there please!), they’ve replaced ordering with that stupid screen, but they kept the people to do the low end job of preparing the food.

That’s stupid! You took out the human social element out still kept the humans for the low jobs, the exact opposite of what AI was supposed to do.

Oh yeah, because AI won’t be able to replace many jobs.Instead it’s flooding the market with content. Text content, audio content and video content which is crap. And people think this is great. Nope.

I should know, I worked on a course in 2018-2019 titled “How to become irreplaceable in an AI driven world”. I haven’t finished it due to Covid, medical malpraxis and a burnout.

Thinking if I should every finish it, I have doubtful feelings, first because of utility, second because of the current state of the internet.

Vocation brings meaning and creates joy in our lives,
