A friend of my kid, dropped my phone. The music kept playing. It resulted in the black screen of death the screen wouldn’t turn on anymore.
Well… It’s not the end of the world. Or is it?
Last year, my kid had dropped it on a paving stones and the screen cracked. I’m that kind of person who keeps things long term and didn’t find the cracked screen a reason to replace it.
It feels kind of relieved not having a smartphone anymore. It’s a weird feeling. I’m not addicted to my smartphone nor social media. Nope, I’m addicted to my computer and experimenting with technology. :))
Forced in using SmartPhones
Seriously, the main problem was when I wanted to login to my bank via a PC web browser. Uhm, they send SMS instead of TOTP. OK, so I need a phone. Luckily I have a S4 MINI since 2014? Still works.
The problem with the business version of their app is that the bank requires you to install their bloatware app ON A SMARTPHONE to allow you to verify yourself from the mobile phone before using the web version. What the f*ck. Not very convenient.
So I’m forced into using a freaking smartphone. BUT I WANT TO USE THE WEB VERSION. Send me a email, sms, TOTP!
Buying a classical dumbphone
I wanted to buy a dumbphone (classic phone) but the problem is that they cost almost the same as low-end smartphones.
It feels weird knowing some people have 1TB disk space and 16GB ram in their pockets. More than the whole computing power of nasa in the 1970’s when they put a man on the moon. Yet these advancements.. still make people believe in conspiracy theories and all they do is swipe photo’s and take selfies.. And I’ve used less than that as a programming PC for years:).
TIP: Did you know that on Android phones, in FireFox with ublock origin enabled, you CAN listen to MUSIC with the screen closed?
All you need to do is open a video, close the screen, re open it and click play. Fiddle around and it’ll work!
Self Care and Privacy
I often go in nature and I was recommended that I should take a phone with me (even a dumbphone) just in case, for my safety, and I agree. Because I often meet wild animals. And to avoid getting hurt (which can happen). If you’re 100% privacy conscious, keep one in your pocket, even if it’s closed. You never know when you might need it.
